Whale in Thames by suzulu on 20 January 2006 4:26pm

There is a Northern Bottle-Nosed Whale in the Thames! It swam past the Houses of Parliament upstream and as I work by the Thames I rushed out of the office as soon as I heard to see if I could see it but it had already gone. There has been a helicopter circling round for a while. I do hope it's OK because it's a long way from home and there is a danger of it being beached. A boat has been sent to protect it and rescuers have been trying keep it away from the river banks.

I do hope it's going to be ok...I've seen several beached whales in Ayustralia and it's such a sad sight...fingers crossed. :)

I just saw it on CNN. I know for sure it is not having a whale of a good time as this is a rather bad situation for the whale. Great viewing for spectators, not safe for the whale.

Hey \Helen good to see you!
Last thing I heard they had the whale surrounded by boats to protect it and it's bleeding and very stressed :(

They have lost sight of it - now it's dark anyway - but someone may have seen it in Greenwich. If so, then it is heading in the right direction but still a long way to go.

This is a sad thing alright. THepoor creature must be terrified. I saw the video on a few different TV news stations tonight. I do hope the darkness and quiet of the night gives it a bit of stress-free time. But I know lttle of thing things and dobt it will help. I hate to see animals suffer.

(Kaz, at first I thought it was Tony lost in the river. lol)

The BBC World Service told us about it and said people were lining up along the river to get a look at it. I'd sure go. Nobody here was able to see the whale in person, were they?
Hopefully, the rescue effort'll be able to explain that "Wales" is on the other side.
