A few years ago, my mum went with some of our pals to some lunch (at the RAF Club) I think.
Right in the middle of the do, there was a bomb scare, and the place had to be evacuated. So all the ladies push out onto the street outside, expecting that that was the last they would see of MP. But no...he turns up on the steps outside and continues as if nothing had happened, in among the throngs of passers-by.
My mum was more impressed that MP was just "an ordinary bloke", and wasn't fussed on all the ceremony - he just loved chatting with all these women.

I do hope he comes to Beijing some day. I think a Palin 'one man' show would do great everywhere.
