Do professional tennis players wear any sort of protective gear on court? I can't imagine getting hit by a 210km/h Roger Federer serve is very good for one's health...

I've heard that eye injuries do happen in tennis. Myself, I'd wear a protective cup (jock) facing a serve like that!

I really hope Maria Sharashowpony gets booted out of the Open soon. It sounds like she has an orgasm everytime she hits the ball. Ugh! I'm sure she grunts and groans merely to put off her opponents. Plus she's rude and appears thoroughly disinterested when giving interviews. I'll be supporting Kim Clijisters.

So will I Missy. Sharasmoova was utterly rude after her victory last night and that grunting is so bad that I have the telly on mute. Clijisters is great, she's fab to watch and she handles herself so well with the media. In the tournament before the Open in Sydney,(which she won), she was booed by Serbian fans all through her winning speech and handled herself with such maturity and intelligence. She's ace! (pun intended!)

It's shame the tennis has been marred this year with crowd violence, an assault on a child and a man who's been arrested for photographing up women's skirts. Pathetic.

Me too, Lounge Trekker. I think you'd probably lose all use of your those parts if a tennis ball travelling at 210km/h hit you there... *whinces*

Here's hoping Sharashutup get sent packing soon.

Sharashowpony! LOL Missy, that's hilarious! I like watching her play tennis, she really is a peach. I actually like watching her interviews, too, but always have the sound off. I'm not very interested in what a pro athlete has to say. It's mostly canned responses anyways. Some athletes are better actors than others!

I don't know about the physiological benefits of grunting during a tennis shot, but if you grunt loudly on every shot, a softer shot (accompanied by a loud grunt) might fool your opponent. A guess. I would feel foolish grunting that loudly during a rally.

Missy - you ought to apply to become a ballsperson at next years Oz Open. Every time Sharapova grunts, hurl a tennis ball at the back of her head. Or jam one down her throat...

I think Maria Sharapova is great!
Why don't you ladies leave her alone?
And her tennis is alright too!
