How to get to Doune by LeoLouise on 12 February 2007 10:33am

I live in London and want to get to Doune Castle for my birthday this year but I dont know what would be the easiest route.

I know I could get to Glasgow quite easily, is there a connection from there or is there a way of getting closer to Doune from London??

Any advice or suggestions GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance

You can use the "Journey Planner" from www.travelinescotland.com
You must first of all get to Stirling, which from the Queen Street station in Glasgow is pretty easy. From there, Doune is pretty close. There should be busses to the village, and the castle should be very, very close!

Get a train from Glasgow to Stirling. Hire a taxi from the rank at Stirling Railway Station - not expensive, or, the bus leaves from the bus station just a few yards away.
You will not be disappointed the castle is magnificent. I know, I live nearby.

I live 5 miles from Doune, unless you have a car to get you there you could be stuck as Doune is a small village on the Stirling outskirt near the Perth motorway.

a taxi might cost something like £10.

you might best booking a taxi there and back and make sure and ask for a set fare. If you want taxi number let me know
