There are times when government can't be blamed for certain problems although in some circumstances they must attempt to do what is right to solve the problem if it is a bad one.

Do you really think PR is a good system, Ken? So you get four councillors for the price of four, when one would suffice. Democracy has been turned on it's head in Scotland, with the tail wagging the dog. We have two list MSP's from the Green Party ,partly holding the balance of power and the Executive having to agree to some of their perverse, and in the case of Patrick Harvie, perverted policies.
As Jim Royle would say " Democracy my arse".

Democracy in Scotland has been made fairer by PR. Four councillors cover a much bigger ward and instead of having one representing 45% of the voters we have 4 who represent 97% of the voters!

the PR system sounds very idealistic. sorry Ken. besides, it'd never work here. we're one of the most culturally diverse nations in the world. we have 11 official languages. catering for the masses by a majority government can be dangerous if you're being biased but if things go right it's a very simple, minimally beuraucratic way to run a country. it doesn't work here. but neither would PR. if you've watched blood diamond then you'd know

TIA

btw i agree with you about not always blaming governments. the current strike is about wage increases. a blanket increase. the government doesnt want to give lazy and lameduck workers a 12% increase but rather a selective few. offer it as an incentive you know. but i know corruption will somehow manage to f**k that up too.

I am not sure what to tell you, Martin. Having visited South Africa and knowing South Africans and Zimbabweans, I am fully aware of your difficulties. :-( Much of it is cultural. All I have to do is look nearby to Mexico to see that. I am still a little surprised the Zulus and Inthaka are taking ANC rule so quietly...
