Innocent until proven guilty Mike ? It doesn't look good for him and he'll carry guilt forever no matter the outcome of things. Despite my earlier comments, I'll try to find compassion for the man.

I won't pass judgement on him without having been there. Mistakes happen, even when you are commanding a $570M ship with 4200 people aboard. However, he is required to do everything he can to help his passengers to safety. Was he on the bridge at the moment of impact? Where was he when the ship listed as to make movement across it's decks impossible? Were communication systems intact enough to proceed with an immediate evaluation and subsequent evacuation of the ship? If he was out of the communications loop, who was commanding the crew to initiate and execute evacuation?

These are questions that will be answered upon investigation and inquiry.

He will be tortured for the remainder of his life, regardless.
