share my source?!! never! *laughs evilly* but i can share what they told me, which is this:

"he is scheduled to be in New York for an evening talk and slideshow on his Himalaya series at the Rubin Museum of Art, 150 West 17th Street on the 14th of March. I am not sure if tickets are still available but you could try!"

I was hoping Louise was hallucinating, but apparently the RMA's "An Evening with MICHAEL PALIN Dinner & Illustrated Talk" really will cost the public $350

Ouch. But since he'll be in NY anyway, one would think (hope, pray?) he plans to do a signing or two for free?

$350...might as well be a million :-(

Quick report (will try bang more info out of my brain):

Harry Shearer was the moderator (a funny man, himself, & a friend of the Pythons, Gilliam in particular, since the '70s!).

MP was in a suit (no jeans/tennis shoes).

Evening started with a showing of about 15 minutes of clips. Besides MPFC & his travel documentaries, it included "Do Not Adjust Your Set" (a very MPFC-like skit about a customer not getting the groceries he wants -- just a tin of shoe polish!), "The Complete & Utter HIstory of Britain" (MP is a real estate agent selling Stonehenge to a young couple), a bit of "GBH" (a pretty powerful scene where he faces down a couple of newspaper reporters) & "SNL" where his mother also appeared on the show!!

Then followed the interview section & then questions from the audience. I'll type these up after I finish doing some work (I am at work, after all...).

Glad to hear it was good :) Shame I don't live over in the states, I would have loved to have gone! Nevermind I can read all about it from those who did go :D

Re: MP in LA! by hello on 15 March 2005 3:19am

It was very entertaining. The interview was directed more torwards Monty Python than his travel series. MP told some funny stories about his python days. Also he did mention that Himilaya is coming out in the states in July. Yay!

Also...after the show he signed stuff for fans. I was sitting in my seat thinking "man, I wish I'd brought something for him to sign." What a blonde moment, I was holding in my hand the little pamphlet they gave everyone when you entered and thats what everyone else was having signed. I realized this right when I was at the exit, so I turned around and went back down to the stage. But I was too late, there was only one person between me and MP when the people in charge said he was done signing. I'm so blonde :) Oh well. It was still a really great show, MP was hilarious.

Also, also... He's a lot taller than I thought he was. Probably because I've only seen him on Monty Python and standing next to John Cleese would make anyone look shorter :)

I was at the show, met him and got my Hemingway Adventure book signed. It was a great show and I enjoyed every minute of it. He was absolutely adorable and witty and funny, and I had an EXCELLENT view of him from where I was sitting!
