Explaining the Red Sox. by tucsonmike on 1 April 2007 4:21am

Hey, I am only adopted into the nation. You have to speak with Elaine to really understand this.

Especially, when the Sox boot another close one to the Yankees. Then I live with all that New England angst. Yes it is that time again.

LOL! Kaz. You can't have both the Boston and Chicago Purple Sox. You need to choose one.

Mike, the curse is broken, why the angst? But pedro in a Mets uniform is strange...

Hey, Andrea I grew up as a Mets fan. I am happy to see Pedro in a Met Uniform. When you deal with Red Sox fans, you learn the angst never vanishes.

How is London treating you?
Mike

Serious sad face for Pedro Martinez - out til second half of season at least. Rotator cuff.

Obviously New Englnders (Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Maine, western parts of Connecticut) are Red Sox fans because that IS their regional team. But it's more than that. A Red Sox Nation member wears his/her loss and dashed hopes like a badge of honor. A REAL fan is a fan of a team that doesn't win all the damned time.

(See also Chicago Cubs fans!)

Mike - London is awesome! School is great, but there are many Michael distractions...Just saw him at the National Theater doing a reading to support imprisoned writers. It was great. I'm supposed to be studying for exams. :)

Sorry - drifted off for a minute. We were talking baseball? It is strange that there isn't a New England baseball team, like the Pats for football. What's that about?

Re: Explaining the Red Sox. by tucsonmike on 3 April 2007 2:16am

Andrea, the Pats were awful until 2001. A Boston College-Holy Cross game would draw more than a Pats game.

The fabled Celtics are strictly a cult thing. A certain group follow them.

Hockey is the Winter sport in Boston. The Bruins will draw whether they win or lose.

I watched last nights Mets opener against the Cardinals. Yankees won today, Sox lost.
