Erratum in Himalaya by chatts on 23 April 2007 6:02am

Dear Michael,

I've been a fan of yours ever since I saw Around the World in 80 Days on the BBC in the early 90's. I recently bought your book "Himalaya" (Phoenix paperback 2005) and was by turns amazed, amused and overall thoroughly entertained.

There is however a minor error I spotted on page 222 (Day 93: Digboi, Assam) ...

"...if you look at the geography of Assam you will see that its border with the rest of India is only a few miles wide, but her borders with China, Tibet, Burma, Bangladesh and Thailand run for 3700 miles (5900 km)..."

I see the same error in the online text of your book on http://www.palinstravels.co.uk/book-3874. There is no international boundry between India and Thailand. There is definitely the entire bulk of Myanmar (Burma) between Assam and Thailand. Additionally, by Assam do you mean the entire North East India or the state on Assam? The state of Assam shares its boundaries only with Bhutan and Bangladesh.

Cheers,

Saurav Chatterjee (Chatts)
