Concorde`s demise by Louise on 12 April 2003 4:25am

I`ve spent years listening to this plane tearing up the sky - I live under the Heathrow flight path. I`ll miss her!

Just wondered if, like Michael Palin, anyone else has had the opportunity to travel on this aircraft?

Concord is the only supersonic airliner in service today, can fly at twice the speed of sound(1350mph)and travel fron London to New York in under 4 hours(normal airlines 8 hrs). She enjoyed 27 years of accident free flying up until July 2000 when it crashed on take off in Paris killing all on board, some 113 passengers. The past few years it has suffered quite a few setbacks with worrying defects. It will be missed i'm sure by many aviation enthusiasts and travellers alike. Heathrow is UK's largest international airport being one of the worlds busiest.

I understand one thing that pressed it into retirement is the maintenance now required. Just not cost-worthy anymore... according to executive interviews and former pilots of the craft.
