Dakar to Bamako by Spoonymonki on 15 May 2003 12:14pm

My plan is to visit Mali in December, however flights are about 700GBP to Bamako, (Mali) compared to 500GBP to Dakar, (Senegal) and I'm thinking it makes more sense to go to Dakar and then go overland to Bamako. However has anybody done this and is it possible to do within a reasonable time scale? I only have 3 weeks for this trip so would really like to make the journey from Dakar to Bamako in about a day at each end of the visit ... I have however spent time in countries like this and am aware that trains are not quite as frequent as ours (though in the UK that's possibly debatable!!!).

Any info .. very gratefully received.
