Nazca Lines - Geoglyphs by artofcp on 3 July 2009 2:09pm
I stumbled upon this link while reading a review of an artist who uses mark making in his paintings inspired by the Nazca Lines. There are several pictures of the geoglyphs and a slew of theories, which are interesting and amusing.

Their shapes are very similar to the crop circles that have been posted here recently.

Oh that's a great link, really good thanx for that!
It's a fascinating subject, would love to see them.

Here's another site I like about the Nazca "bug" lines.

I've been trying to work out how to do a stained glass pattern of the spider, but it really doesn't lend itself so well, glass doesn't want to be scored and broken in those wavy lines.

I'm not necessarily of the mindset that the Nazca people were trying to communicate with aliens, although I have no proof to dispel that, either! But we all tend to think of our gods as being above us, in the sky, in the heavens, "up there." Perhaps they were simply making a tribute to their gods.

Thanks, Canaveralgumby. Your link has more info.

Glass isn't my medium, but it sounds like a nice challenge! Does it lend itself to scooping out the lines in the same way they describe the making of these geoglyphs rather than cutting all the way through? I love the idea of replicating the method on glass on a small scale, since glass is made from sand.

Personally, I think the makers of all these geoglyphs were just artists using the landscape as their canvas.
