The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Derbyshire by Spursfan on 4 July 2010 4:07pm
On Tuesday we are off to Derbyshire for 3 days in the motorhome.

Zak has his 'Footplate Experience Course' (driving and firing a steam locomotive (0-6-0ST if you were wondering...!)) on Wednesday morning at 8.45 (2 hours) so we thought we'd make a few days of it. I bought him the course for his 60th birthday last year.

The course (the company is Peak Rail) is at Darley Dale, Matlock (or at least that's where they start). We are staying at Rownsley - only a couple of miles away.

Whilst Zak is being Casey Jones, Tosun and I will be relaxing in the 'van which we are going to park in the station carpark. I shall generally be lazy and also read a book and Tosun will no doubt sleep fitfully (waiting for his Dad - he can never properly settle until we are both with him).

Oh and I shall take some photos and put them on Facebook; maybe send one to Holger for putting on here.

Well obviously we are getting things ready for the off tomorrow, but we've just had a bonus!

Zak was looking in one of the wardrobes in one of the spare rooms for one of his (many) hats, and found...........................................................................A Cadbury Creme Egg Easter Egg!!! With an Easter egg, mini creme eggs and mug.

We have no idea who it was for, or even which Easter, but we had obviously hidden it from someone.

We are going to have to eat it!

It expires in July 2010 so we'd better hurry up!

Re: Derbyshire (Poor Tosun!!) by Spursfan on 9 July 2010 7:36pm
We got back yesterday afternoon.

Although he loves being in the motorhome when we are actually at a place, Tosun HATES travelling in it (though he loves travelling by car). Probably because of all the rattles etc?

Anyway this time he was getting anxious as normal, (I sit with him in the back), jumping on and off my lap - bruises to prove it (ouch!!) - and generally not being very happy. It was only an hour or so to the site, but about 45 mins from home he was suddenly sick and of course on me!!

Zak couldn't stop at that point, so I had to mop him up as best I could (it was only white froth luckily) and all would've been well if only Tosun hadn't also had a touch of what I can only call projectile diarrhoea!!!

He is sooo clean normally and has never soiled in the house or anything so he must've been deperate poor mite. And when Zak COULD stop the van and let Tosun out, he did the same again on the pavement!! (Zak of course washed it away as best he could.)

We are convinced it was caused by stress.

On the way back we spent half an hour at Carsington Water which he enjoys (we've been before) and then stopped a couple more times so he wasn't as stressed.

Zak's 'Footplate Experience' was good apparently. There was a driver and a fireman. He was taught how to work the gears and brake and the whistle (amongst other things) and he also stoked the engine, and other steam engine-y things. The lesson was 2 hours, and he now has a certificate and can have free rides on Peak Rail for 5 months.

We went on the train for about an hour with Tosun - who absolutely loved it!! It was great.
