Will you wear a toque then, mate?

Thanks for teaching me a new word.. Previously I thought a toque was something to do with smoking..

Damn.. just keeps getting colder.. forecast for -18°C tonight..

Been trying to keep the fish pond (and the fish in it) from freezing solid, but it's an uphill battle..

Zak lost several fish in our pond last winter, Ev, including one we called 'General Sherman'! He was huge, at a guess 30-40 cm long, a Ghost Carp.

:(

Well that's encouraging..

I've kept these little fellas alive through 3 winters already, but this long stretch of very low temperatures is a challenge..

Ev can't you just bring em inside and stick em in the bath tub till the weather warms up?

If the fish freeze solid, you might be able to thaw them so they can resume their lives. I think when the surface of the pond freezes the oxygen level of the water drops and the fish drown.

I've come home from ice fishing (when I lived inland), thawed fish to clean them, only to find that they were still alive! Amazing, really.
