The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Friendship with Moslems. by tucsonmike on 20 August 2013 2:11am
People here know how pro-Israel I am. Having said that, I wanted to speak about our Muslim friend, Aisha.
Aisha is an African-American from Queens. She knows I am Jewish and we talk about a lot of things. She has my sarcastic sense of humor and is a Mets fan. Her first husband was a National Football League player (American Football) names Rufus Mays. Yes, I remember him. Played for the Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles. (Aisha had been a flight attendant).

The point of this story, is it seems on an individual basis people are people, nuff said.

Agreed Mike.

Both Zak and I were born christian, though both of us are atheist. His father was muslim (hence our surname, which you will know from FB) but married a 'christian' girl. Zak's Dad ate bacon, and didn't really follow the muslim path, though when he was dying he reverted a little as he was desperate to be buried (the muslim way) and not cremated.

Zak and I have many very good muslim friends in Turkey. They would be friends of ours whether they were christian, hindu, Buddhist or whatever. It makes no difference - some of them are quite religious (in fact one used to be an imam) but they respect other religions.

It so annoys us when we see other Brits (usually low-life) taking the mick out of what is, at the end of the day, their hosts' religion, sneering about the call to prayer etc. Very disrespectful, and we feel ashamed.

I think the point I am making is the same as yours - that underneath whatever colour or religion we are, we are all citizens of planet earth and should respect each other [I am exempting perpetrators of animal and human torture of any kind in this!!]
