Hemingway's Chair by voxpops on 11 March 2004 1:43am

I just finished Mike's novel Hemingway's Chair, and I'm sorry to say this, but I didn't think it was all that good. It wasn't even remotely amusing and the ending was completely unsatisfying. It didn't even go into what happened to the characters which he had spent a large amount of time setting up. Has anybody else read it, and if so, what was your reaction. I hate to criticize, but I'm bored and have nothing else to do. :-)

I read it, Voxpops! I enjoyed it to some extent and found it somewhat amusing. It WAS his first attempt at a novel... and he DID manage to build character profiles pretty well. But I know what you mean.... I wanted to know what happened to the characters too. I figured Mikey had a sequel in mind when he's too old to travel. LOL

LOL when he's too old to travel he'll be too old to string a few words together let alone write another epic novel...

I enjoyed the book, but at the time I had only started reading heavier books, in other words getting out of the teen fiction thing and started reading adult books... it's a good entertainer, I can't say much 'cos I haven't read it lately, but I enjoyed it. The characters are typical of Michael's style.

Do you think the main woman character (I forget who she is) is Michael's fantasy woman? Or is that too naughty to discuss? ;D

I only experienced this on audiotape (MP reading) but must say that I much enjoyed it.

And I'm not even a fan of Hemingway. Or for that matter, much of a fan for MP's book on Hemingway (dare I confess that I was among the readers who panned it on amazon.co.uk?).

Still, I thought this had some good writing and clever twists that were worth attention...
