Monty Python's Flying Circus named #5 Cult Show of All Time! by AltoRose on 24 May 2004 5:53pm

The new issue of TV Guide has an article on the top 25 cult shows ever. Sitting proudly at #5 is Monty Python's Flying Circus. Here's what they say:

Monty Python's Flying Circus (1969-1974)
"And now for something completely different" went the show's catchphrase. And boy, did it deliver. This sophisticated, sublimely silly British sketch comedy became TV's first (and only) surreality show.
Cult-ability: We'll lay odds that to this day, every college dorm has one Pythonite who can recite the "Dead Parrot" routine verbatim. Such devotion has spawned an empire of books, records, movies and - get ready - a possible stage musical, "Spamalot", from trouper Eric Idle.

Star Trek was #1, followed by X-Files, then Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and then Farscape.

It beat out the Simpsons, though. :)

I'm a total geek. I've watched "Trek" and "Python" and "Forever Knight" and "Twin Peaks" to the detriment of my home and family.

I miss Forever Knight...

I just got the complete box set for my birthday!! Sorry to gush, but Comedy Central hasn't run this show in years, so it's been forever since I've seen most of these! I would highly recommend it - found it (in the US) at Costco for $89.00.
