Hello there!

I live in the south of Ireland, so thought I would say a thing or two! Hope this is not too late and of some use!

Firstly, Cork city is a really great place to do a pub crawl cos the pubs are next to each other! In the city dont miss our main street (currently undergoing major make over) and the shops along the street. University College Cork is where I study and a great place to meet young people. The uni was built in 1850 and has lots of cool modern buildings added on campus.

Near the university is the Cathedral of St. Finbars who was the founder of Cork. The city jail (spelt in the old english as 'Gaol' on the signs) is definitely worth a visit. A bus trip round Cork city in the open top bus is a great idea cos you can hop on and off all day and see these places.

In county Cork there are sooo many places! Blarney Castle is a short bus ride and unmissable! Midleton is where Irish whiskey is made-another day trip from Cork.

For the region of Ireland you are intending visiting check out
http://www.westcork.ie/ for other tips. Kerry is beaututiful, and dont miss the chance to go up a bit to Co. Clare to see the Cliffs of Moher.

Finally, I'd like to wish you and any other Palinites a great time here in Ireland this summer!:) Im off for 6wks on the 21st of July to central Europe, Romania, Italy and Belgium:)

I know this is a bit late, but I returned from Ireland not long ago and, despite never straying more than an hour's drive from Dublin, had wonderful experiences. Outside of Dublin, recommended sites: Newgrange, Bellifont Abbey, Monasterboice, the Hill of Slane, Castle Kilkea, Baltinglass Abbey, Glendalough, and Powerscourt House (and gardens). Oh, and don't miss dinner at the Coach House in Roundwood -- exquisite.
