Apologies for the extra post, please see underneath

Re: Palin's Progress by RichB on 12 December 2002 10:27pm

A few months ago I was outbid at the last minute on eBay for a video called "Palin's Progress", bah humbug. It was released by the Scottish Tourist Board and featured a film made by Michael with his son Tom and a guide who's name I can't remember walking the Aonach Glannach Ridge (the name may be wrong as I can't remember it exactly) A second film of the area is included called "Glen of Weeping".

I was obviously gutted to miss out but after a quick Google search I found a website which offered the video and other Scottish walking videos. Due to my recent wedding, funds were a little tight but I went to check it out just now, Xmas present you know and found the site gone. Does anyone know how to get hold of this video, maybe Webmaster could help? It must be a little known video and would be a great addition to any Palin fan's collection. I'm sure not many of our overseas Palinites will have seen this and if another company is selling it, it could give everyone a chance to own it.

Wow, sorry but I can't help. I liked the fact that you've shared this information! I never knew anything about a "Palin's Progress" Thanks :) I hope you'll find it again!

Agreed.

Thanks for the info Rich. It sounds really interesting and definately worth searching for. I'll nose about here and see what's around. I certainly haven't seen it on the telly here but Dianne and Matt may have.

Good luck with your search. :-}

Please keep us posted.

Thanks for the the interest guys, I'll intensify the search now. I found the soundtrack on Moira Kerr's website, where the notes said it was taken from a BBC film, another possible avenue? I'll certainly tell you if I find it available to buy.

I get the feeling the film was taken a long time ago, perhaps just after the 'Confessions of a Train Spotter' film, in the early 80's. I can't help thinking that Tom would still be at school, an educational experience for him. I may be way off here but it may explain the rarity of the piece.

I've never seen it on the telly either Ellen which again adds weight to the 'old and deleted' argument. I'm still hoping that Webmaster can intervene and put an end to our suffering by telling us where to buy it.

Great news, I've found it!!!! Visit www.magicscotland.com, click on 'The Big List', scroll down to 'Video', choose 'Various' then the 7th video down is 'Where Eagles Fly - Palin's Progress/Glen of Weeping' all for the princely sum of £14.58 when VAT is included. When scrolling through the order page it seems as though they deliver anywhere in the world too. I haven't ordered yet so don't know if it's in stock but at least they sell it.

I was going to order this, but was told by a friend who had seen it that it would be a waste of my money if I only bought it as a Palin fan. I do know it has lovely scenery and if you are interested in climbing or Scotland I'm sure it would be great. But most of it is watching Michael and Tom Palin at a great distance. However, don't let that put you off buying it. Just because two people I know of did not think much of it, it does not mean you won't enjoy it RichB.

Ellen,
I don't remember it being on telly over here.

Thanks for the honesty Dianne, I'm surprised that someone else has actually seen it!!

RichB,
Louise, who sometimes posts here has seen it. She can tell you a bit more about it if you want to know more and ask her nicely. :-)
