How can we be better Palinites? by tcoscanyan on 31 January 2005 9:34pm

I treasure MP's experiences and attitude toward the world so much! I want to be a better Palinite - a better world citizen. This is perhaps along the lines of The Palinites Charter. Here are some thoughts I'd like you all to expand on:

1) appreciation, not assimilation
2) write about one's experiences with an eye toward history and understanding native culture
3) keep a humorous attitude towards life's difficulties
4) imbibe a modicum of an alcoholic beverage at the end of each day (see #3 above)
5) be a self-deprecating soul willing to learn about others
6) treasure your loved ones, whether distant or close

Other thoughts? I'll end with my new e-mail signature line, composed of a couple of sentences from MP's messages to us Web-folk:

"The complexity and diversity of the world is the hope for the future. Remember that the more we talk to each other - in every country - the safer the world will be."

hot damn. Yes.

I have been doing #3 and #4 quite a lot lately, and it has helped. I do not drink garlic homebrewed vodka, though... :)

Respect all cultures, and know that there is ALWAYS something new to learn...

Keep plenty of cats nearby.

If someone tries to get you to buy a carpet you don't need, walk away and say politely, "perhaps later."

If it seems hopeless, just remember there is always a solution, and you can ask for help from your friends to get you out of your predicament.

...oh, never be afraid to ask for help..

be willing to learn the language...

and...

always walk with a smile....

Making sure that the local rainfall data stays in the library!

Returning sacred tribal appendages on time!

Maybe even not putting too many people into chocolate bars!

Which all really adds up to one thing, namely knowing what all the above mean! :)

By looking out for each other. Friendship is a wonderful thing. It's good to talk.
