Time Change by intrepid on 23 March 2005 12:48pm

I suppose I could have put this under the "Doctor Who" thread, but I have an important Question to ask. Nobody here can tell me.
When do we have to set the clocks back? Is it this Sunday?

Re: Time Change by irishmanufan on 23 March 2005 12:55pm

sorry about this but here comes a pedantic comment . unless you are in the southern hemisphere of the world you set your clock forward as offcial summer time starts . think of the rhyme spring forward fall back .
although if you are a dweller in the lands down under you would set your clocks back to start winter .
acording to my mother who is the font of knowledge on this kind of thing time change occurs on saturday if you are in the northern hemisphere :0)
cheers
Linda

Nearly right Irishmanufan, except the clocks go forward in the UK at 2 a.m on Sunday morning hence losing us an hour of precious Sunday morning lie-in time.

Thanks. My reason for asking is that my big Ireland trip starts on Thurs, when, going from mainland Europe to Dublin, I'll have to put my watch back an hour. I won't really have to adjust, though, because 2 days later I'll be back on the time I'm used to.

that makes sense intrepid - i am off to a russell watson concert this saturday and staying with friends - so that means one less hour that i cant get to sleep after the concert as i will still be on planet russell and most likely talking till the small hours!!!

When flying west from here (Houston) to Las Vegas, one crosses 2 time zones. Since it only take about 1:45 min. of travel time, one arrives before one leaves.

That is SO cool! I want to do that, but I'll need a cunning plan.......

I got to Ireland on Thursday and changed my watch from continental Europe time to Irish time. 2 days later, and before having time to adjust to gaining an hour, we did the daylight savings time thing. The net result is that I'm back to the time I was on 5 days ago.
I tried to write this in Dublin, but it didn't work. Since then I've been to Belfast, and now I'm in Galway. The Rock of Cashel is next.
