the hampstead lecture by edith on 15 May 2005 6:42pm

hi every one. i have just finished reading about what happened at the lecture and i feel really sorry for phyll! i know i would have been reallly upset if michael had a go at me because i would have come away wondeing what i had done to upset him. what i have found over the last few years of going to meet michael at book sighings is that he now does not seem so happy to be doing them.
i rememebr going to my first which was full circle back in 97 and i had been queing for about an hour and a half. i was so excited to see him and when it was my turn he seemed genually happy to meet me and talked to me untill his minder placed the next book in front of him.he thanked me for making the effort to come down. i left feeling so happy (except i was so excited i forgot to ask for a picture) but oh well it didnt matter! the next time i met him was the hemingways travels signing. this time i made sure i didnt forget to ask to have my photo taken with him... again he seemed fine and was happy to do it. he thanked me again for coming to see him and i left with a massive smile on my face! he even told me one of his cats had the same name as mine which was nice.( he might say that to everyone but i didnt care)!
when i saw him at the sahra signing he wasnt as comfortable having his picture taken but he posed with me and signed 3 other books i had brought along, but he did seem a bit uncomfortable with all the attention he was getting.
the last time i saw him was last year at the himalayer signing and he was very off with the press guy who was taking his picture and we were told no flash photography (which i can understand) but when i asked for a photo with him (i turned my flash off) he said ok but you could tell he didnt want it to happen. he did not even look up when my friend took the photo. he was in no way as friendly as he has been in the past.
i can understand that it must be really tiring and a bit boring signing books for hours on end. so maybe; as he is in his 60's now that he is just losing patience. after travling for months on end then coming back and writing a book and then doing all the promotion and meeting your fans it must take it out of you!!! i couldnt do it and i am only 24!
anyway if you are reading this michael and havent fallen asleep half way through i am still loving all your work and i hope you enjoy your well deserved year off! keep up the good work!
