Re: How much would you pay for a signed autograph by Michael Palin? by cheese on 22 May 2005 10:17pm

Although I think Michael Palin is the second best person on the face of the Earth (after Sky) I think I would only pay for an autograph if it was actually on something (i.e. a book).
Having said that, if I could be guaranteed that the autograph would go up in value I might be willing to pay anywhere in the region up to £10.

I would never ever pay at all for an autograph!!!
Who should I pay to anyway? I don't think Michael would take money from fans for autographs, and if he did, that would be a reason for me not to want his autograph anyway.
If I met Michael or wrote to him I probably would ask for an autograph, and I'd be very happy if he signed one for me, but I'd never buy one on ebay or something like that, where I can't be sure if it's really Michaels autograph and know that somebody who doesn't deserve it is making money from it. If I got a Michael-autograph, I'd want it to be something personal, and I'd want it to be kinda like a present from him to me.

I wouldn't pay unless it was for a charity of some kind.
I've bought books DVD's videos etc and generally when you get a celeb autograph it's half the joy having it signed in front of you. So in a way it's already personally addressed as you have the memory of the experience every time you look at it.

I wouldn't want an autograph at all. I really like Michael's professional output but an autograph does nothing for me. Can anyone explain why you'd want an autograph in the first place?

I agree with kazzzz, if it was for charity I would give money, but thats a completely different scenario. I doubt that I would 'buy' an autograph and dont think its justifiable to take money off somebody just for writing your name. I seriously doubt that Michael Palin would do it for money. I dont think hes that kind of person.
