POLISARIO by IanTBahn on 10 August 2005 9:38pm

In the eighties I worked on a large factory ship off the coast of Mauritania. During my 4 year contract at least 20 europeans were murdered by the Polisario. Eight of them my shiop mates, all european. Although I understand that the people of this area have a valid greivance against various governments they should not be romantisised as the killings were of innocent, unarmed men, merely trying to earn a living. Yes, advertise their plight but please do not try to justify or ignore what injustices they have done.

I'll have to ask my Moroccan friend Tariq about the Polisario. When I brought Sahara to my Toastmasters meeting and showed the book to Tariq, he made it clear he had never visited Moroccos neighbors.
I know Morocco tried to send settlers to Western Sahara.
It's something I don't know much about.

The Polisario front figured quite large in the early episodes of Sahara and Michael spent time in a Polisario camp in Algeria before crossing into Mauritania. It opened up my eyes some to this forgotten war.
