Hi LittleMac, we went on a family holiday some time ago to Paris. Around the Eifle Tower it is VERY expensive, cost about £ 14 for 2 x coffee's & 3 soft drinks. Go down Rue De Italian and have a starter in one resturant, leave and have a main meal in another, a carappe in the street and a night cap in a cheap bar. During the day go to the area near Notre Damne BUT do not go in the cafe's get a nice loaf, cheese, ham, bottle of wine etc and sit by the Seine and people watch. Enjoy

Littlemac, where are you traveling from?

If you are going from the US, I suggest a package deal. Yes, I know. I hear people now: "Ew! Packages!" But if you don't have a lot of cash, and you want a nice hotel and so on, packages can hook you up.

For example, I found a 9-day package with Trafalgar for about $1300. It includes air fare, airport transfers, hotel (near the Eiffel Tower), half-day sightseeing in Paris and a half-day excursion to Versailles. The rest of your time is your own. Not a bad deal.

There are others out there. Most of the Internet travel sites can hook you up with deals on air fare and hotel combos.

It's an idea to think about.

Whatever you do, get a metro pass for traveling in Paris. If memory serves me right, they come in 1-, 3- and 7-day increments. Paris traffic is MURDER, so using a combination of your feet and the subway is much better. The subway is crowded, but I found it was inexpensive, went everywhere I wanted (within a block or two) and was safer than most subway systems I've been on.

Another neat idea is to get a museum pass. You can get these in the subway stations, and they will get you into almost any museum in the city, including the Louvre. I forget how much they were, but I remember they weren't expensive. The only reason I didn't get one when I was there is because I was only going to be in Paris for 2 days on my own, and one of those days was a Tuesday. A lot of Paris museums are closed on Tuesdays. So, for me, the pass wasn't a deal, but for you, it could be <G>.
