Ooooh, ooooh, ooooh, great question, maggie may! I've always intended to go to Ireland, the land of my ancestors, but I have always used the cheaper flights to that go to London and then have been seduced by that wonderful city and never managed to get out of it. I'm determined that my next flight will land in Dublin (will visit my old friends in London at the end of the trip.) I need to develop plans further. Donegal and Dublin are my two "must-sees". What's the best way to get around the country? And what shouldn't be missed?

I agree with sighthound - Dublin for a taste of an irish city and Donegal for it's rugged beauty. The people are wonderful too. Linz

What sea or air port you are going into may influence your decision on places to see. Most of Ireland is lovely at most times of the year but we found in October with poor weather Dublin wasn't as pleasant as it had been made out to be. It also depends on the type of things you like to do when on holiday. Sightseeing in winter can be uncomfortable but indoor events are suitable whatever the weather. I'm sure there will be an Ireland tourism website that could give you some good ideas.
