The Chatter Box : Blathering On
The Future of New York. by tucsonmike on 3 June 2006 4:21pm
I posted this so anyone traveling there will get an idea of what soem thing the future will bring.

I was in the bookstore yesterday (Borders, my usual Friday evening haunt). I picked up New York Magazine. Now, my family gets it, but they are a little far just to go pick up a magazine.
Normally, I don't bother with New York Magazine. The hard hitting articles it had thirty years ago are a thing of the past. Now, it is mainly glitterati.

There was an interesting article though about the Future of New York in the next ten years. It will be a very different city from the one I grew up in, with new parks redone neighborhoods, etc. The proposed new developments on the Brooklyn Waterfront where I grew up (and that my mother is fighting all the way).

Yes, and I read the article about the Mets after that article.

I don't care about Brooklyn! What did it say about the Mets?!?!?

Are they proposing to squish and squeeze very tall condos (or co-ops as they call them in NYC) onto the waterfront that will block out the sun and the moon and completely obstruct the entire neighborhood's view of the water and the skyline? Then they can call it FLORIDA NORTH!!

Cori it said the Mets have good team chemistry, Carlos Delgado is a major team leader and that they are more fun than the unmentioned team that plays in the Bronx.
They are still in first place, ahead of the Braves. Keeping tomahawk chops to a minimum is a nice touch.

Yes, Cori three thirty story buildings have been proposed for the Brooklyn waterfront along with a cruise ship terminal. There would have been even more, had New York received the 2012 Olympics. My mothers little neighborhood group is suing the State of New York over it. I grimaced, thinking my mother is planning to run for City Council. (I have two years to worry about that). She will be 72 then and maybe think again.
On the other hand, I live in paradise. I am 2400 miles away. It is all academic to me.
