The Show Waiting for God. by tucsonmike on 7 June 2006 12:06am

Every Saturday night, our PBS station shows old BBC shows and one of them is Waiting for God. I watched the Actress Stephanie Cole and thought, ah, the Hallmark Maxine Cartoon.
(For those who don't know, Maxine has grown into an industry in the United States. The cartoons look like Stephanie Cole in her role in that show. Maxine is also just as ornery and opinionated on everyting).

You could have Stephanie Cole's character comment on everything as she does in the show. Iraq, Tony Blair, etc.

That was a funny episode Arty. It was on a couple of weeks ago. The funniest part of that episode to me are Jane's reactions.

Waiting for God is great, and so is One Foot in the Grave. I laugh so hard I fall off my chair.

Yes, both shows are really funny and observant. Stephanie Cole is a great character actor and has been in some wonderful tv roles.
Check out "A Bit of a Do" by David Nobbs. A classic series highlighting the conflict of etiquette in modern British life. A modern comedy of manners. Each episode is a social function attended by the same people and their sordid secrets are revealed over the series.
The actor who plays Jane (forgive me, I've forgotten her name) was also in one of the best tv plays ever - "Abigail's Party." A Mike Leigh piece. (Secrets and Lies) It is very old now (like me) but quite brilliant.
And while we're on the subject - another oldie but goldie "Professional Foul" by Tom Stoppard. You'd like this Mike - it combines football with ethics and philosophy.

One Foot in the Grave is another good one.
The protagonist is such a sad old sod.

The other role I remember Stephanie Cole in is Tenko. That was a rather serious show though.

Thank you for the tip, Linz. Sounds like something I would enjoy.
