Mexico's Election. by tucsonmike on 27 June 2006 3:01am

It is this coming Sunday, July 2nd. The Daily Star had a large article about it. We cannot vote in it, however, whether I want to be or not, I have an interest in the winner.

There are five candidates, three major ones.
Felipe Calderon, from the Conservative PAN Party. (The party of outgoing President Vincente Fox).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Action_Party_%28Mexico%29

Calderon is a Harvard trained economist and solidly pro United States. His support is mainly the middle and upper classes. The link will give you details about the party.

Roberto Madrazo. He is the candidate of the PRI, which ruled the country between 1920 and 2000
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institutional_Revolutionary_Party

The PRI has no real platform other than winning elections. They were formed out of the chaos of the Mexican Revolution. They stole elections and they basically had a campaign of "if you don't vote for us, there will be another violent revolution." Madrazo is an old style party hack.

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. He is a former Mayor of Mexico City who is known for cutting corners and only wanting to work with the United States when he must. His party was formed in 1989 the Party of the Democratic Revolution

The election is so close, all three major party candidates have a shot.

Calderon is by far the most qualified. We shall see.

I wish there were elections in France too... but, we have to wait until 2007...except if "he" dissolves the assembly...
