I'm so sorry for all who suffered the flood, I guess Michael shares our feelings about his hometown. It's sad I can't actually help.

We are having bad floods here and my uncle is caught up in them and may be evacuated tonight :(

I wish we could take some of that water off your hands. There's been a huge fire raging at Lake Tahoe with hundreds of houses burned and thousands evacuated - the biggest fire ever recorded in that area. And the Lake, famous for it's clarity, has become so fouled with ash that it may no longer stay clear. More 50 mph winds are predicted for today and tomorrow so there's no hope for containing it this week.

The fires are not near you, are they Geraldine?
Re: Tony by sighthound on 29 June 2007 2:12am
No, we're safe. They are a hour away up in the mountains but we can see smoke. And I have some friends who may be coming here if they have to evacuate.

Is it that there are more natural disasters now or is it that with technology it's all so prominent in our longerooms?

Climate change is my bet,Karen. This year's March in UK was the warmest on record & rainfall in London was zilch. June is more like March should be this year.

Both answers are accurate. There is climate change and because of the media, you see more and more.
