Re: Thoughts on new PM Gordon Brown? by perfectbitch on 29 June 2007 11:38am
I respect the ideals that policians begin their career with and campaigned actively for the Labour party when I was younger. I helped Tom Pendry into parliament when the tories won the election. My grandfather was heavily involved in the creation of the miners union and was blacklisted from every mine in South Wales. My heart is with you but.... Money and business have far too much control/influence on governments world wide, "power corrupts" and this New Labour is a million miles away from the ideology that I grew up with and it wasn't all bad.

I do not believe that my vote makes much difference but that has not stopped me from voting as I know that rieght was hard fought for. However, I take note of a quote that I once discovered, "Politics, like charity, begins in the home."

I hope you can continue your interest and enthusiasm without becoming disillusioned as I did.

It looks as though I'll be voting Green again at the next general election.

Linz, what a considered answer. Thank you! My fear now is, having observed the political process close-to quite a lot, that when it comes finally to a change of government I'll so much understand their problems, and how the media will represent them that I'll be 100% sympathetic to them. I'll never change from Labour - as a golden Labour oldie once remarked 'where you come from you don't have much choice'- but it'll do me good to see the other side!
