Hi Dianne,welcome to the fold.
Great motto suggestion, hmmmm...

Yes we could be at the same book signing...spooky... :-} :-} Two people could handle a banner better than one and there's safety in numbers!!
I'll be the one in the embarrassingly large shoes wearing a violent shade of violet Pac-A-Mac with windswept naturally curly hair ( I lied about the perm!!) and just in case you miss me, I'll wear a pink carnation.....

As for being mad (it's the NZ water isn't it?) I didn't always WANT to be a loony, I wanted to be a Lumberjack............

Ellen,

Did I read in one of your earlier messages you live in Christchurch or thereabouts? If so, we live on different islands and won't be at the same book signing. However, if you will be wearing a violent shade of violet Pac-A-Mac with windswept naturally curly hair and the giveaway item of a pink carnation, I'm sure I will be able to see you from across the Cook Strait. :-)

Do you think it is the NZ water that makes us loony? Perhaps it is the NZ food instead or the air we breath or perhaps it has everything to do with living way down here in the South Pacific a long way away from nowhere? Apart from that country across the Tasman. :-)

Hi Dianne,
Yes you've tracked me down, it is Christchurch; btw you don't work for the IRD do you??( She asked nervously )

On book signing day I'll climb to the top of the Cathedral in the Square and give you a cheery wave, Pac-A-Mac, carnation and all!!

The next challenge on that day will be to not alarm Michael and to avoid a lifetime ban from Whitcoulls ( major NZ bookstore for all you north of NZ) for causing a visual disturbance !!

I think the isolation does makes us more prone to loonyness, when you're this far away from anywhere you have to make up your own fun!!! Though I'm actually English ( West Country lass), perhaps it comes out more the farther from the UK you go? As for those people living across 'The Ditch', god knows!!

Hi Ellen,
I'm a West Country lass myself,whereabouts are you originally from?I'm right at the end,12 miles from Lands End.How long have you been away?Its not only NZ water/air that makes you looney,living in Cornwall does strange things to you too!!!!!!!Can i just ask .....what are wing tips?I'd wear them if they got me to see Michael, rain, snow(highly unlikely in Cornwall)howling gales,threat of rain or a monsoon.Dont own a Pac-a-Mac though

Hang on a minute, what is this "The Spanish Inquisition????????" I wasn't expecting it!!!! :-}}

Sorry SueJL, just kidding :-}; it's really nice to make contact with other West Country personages.
To answer your questions, I was born in Plymouth but was soon after adopted from a small room at the West Wilts Adoption agency at Bath, so technically I came from an office!! This confused me early on as I'd been told by well meaning adults that I'd come from under a cabbage leaf; when we went back to the same Agency three years later to collect a bundle that turned out to be my new little brother I had some interesting questions!!!

Melksham, Wiltshire was my home town (next to the Bath office!) until we emmigrated as a family to NZ twenty years ago this Sept just gone.As of yet I haven't been able to get back over to the UK and I would dearly love to visit.
Especially to show my husband and two daughters ( Rosalie 10yrs and Emily almost 5) where I come from, meet family and go to all the special places from my childhood.We'll keep saving the pennies,make that dollars and cents and who knows........See RE: Discovering The Website and Travels Closer to Home for more ramblings!!

I'm pleased to hear that Cornwall has a loonifying effect too :-}

As for wing tips, we need Helen here for an explanation as she owns a pair of really cool, very large :-] black wing tip boots .......... "Helen, are you there??????? Speak to me Helen......."

Well, perhaps she won't mind if I jump in here.........They are stylish mens /ladies shoes that have what looks like the shape of a pair of open wings across the front of each shoe, usually with some type of pattern as well across the front. (If I'm mistaken, please Helen or anyone put me sraight :-})

I'm a new-chum 'round here, also from NZ, when is M.P. due here? Do you have an itinerary or similar? P.S. I know how to boil water for said tea. or coffee.
P.S. The one legged Gerbil of Tassie; sorry, big endo the other day.

Re: Oh God ! There'll Be Nothing Of Him Left !!!!!! by ellenpc on 2 November 2002 6:56am

Hi Martini Max, the book signing itinerary appears in an article on the Daily Llama/ PythOnline website. It's mentioned that Michael could possibly be coming to NZ/Oz early in the New Year and that's what I'm hoping and praying for at the moment!! Hope this is helpful :-}

P.S. North or South island?? (just out of sheer nosiness)

P.P.S Not quite 'comprendi' the last bit of your P.S ...big endo ??????? Explaino pleaso

I`m delighted to report that, as of 31st October, Michael has not only recovered his voice, he also has all of his limbs intact and sports a nifty pair of black suede shoes for public appearances. [ No wingtips though, Helen! ]

So he`s fit as an export to NZ, do please return him in the same condition.

Louise ;-)

You`re welcome, Ellen. [Well, certainly welcome to borrow Michael but you can`t keep him. I want to make that perfectly clear].

Seriously, Roy and I went to his illustrated talk on Thursday and it was great. That`s how I know about the shoes y`see. We have to send an in-depth report to Dianne, gawd help us if we forget any details ...
