Oh no. It begins.

You won't want to be anywhere near a TV, radio or newspaper in Australia for the next six weeks.
Federal election on the 24th of November. Let the barrage begin! And it's gonna get nasty! |

Only six weeks?!! You don't know how good you have it. We have non-stop electioneering now in the U.S. Even before Bush's inauguaration after the last election, the press was speculating on who would be elected in '08. We're still 13 months away from that election and endless hours of media time is spent discussing who's going to win. And, of course, this makes it absurdly expensive to run a campaign so politicians have to spend 90% of their time fundraising which gives big money contributors control over them. We've created a disastrous election system. |

At least you know when your elections will be. November 2008 is a cert.
Now, in the UK, we've had speculation about "when" rather than "who". It's a bleedin' nightmare! |

Non-stop electioneering. You have my sympathies, Geraldine. :-)
I've seen dozens of political ads already. The Liberal Party are being very negative - Labor are inexperienced, dominated by trade unions, incapable of handling our booming economy, stuff like that. Same stuff as the 2004 election. This is going to be fun. Not. |

That is right, non stop and the primaries start right after the New Year so it is heating up. |

I'm sick of it already. All the 11th hour reforms and promises have begun, these are never offered when the parties are in the middle of their terms. And to top it off, Our charming PM has announced that he will NOW recognise indigenous people in the Constitution. He is more transparent than a pane of glass. Can't wait to see the look on his face when he loses on the 24th. |

When he loses, he will simply try to generate the impression that he was a great leader who everyone loved. |

I don't know about that, Ev. The Libs won't be terribly impressed by Howard's refusal to hand over the leadership to Peter Costello if the PM loses the election. IMO, if Howard loses the election, the Libs will turn on him faster than you can say "Past his prime". |
