I don't have The Favorite Movie, but there are quite a few I really like. And there is hardly a scheme to recognize, I have the mainstream "Lord of the Rings" movies right beside niche products like "Withnail and I", which never hit the cinemas here in Germany.

I just bough a digital remastered dvd edition of the for me ageless "Olsen Gang". It'a an Danish series made between 1968 and 1998 about a criminal gang with the three members Egon, Benny and Kjeld:

http://www.olsen-bande.com/

The actors Ove Sprogøe, Morten Grunwald, Poul Bundgaard and all the other charming members of the cast are still very popular in Danmark and Eastern Germany. And it's a fine example how your personal background makes you laugh about different things.

The Olsen Gang stands for the ordinary Joe, trying to make their living in a low level economy, cover lack of money and technology by wit and knowledge of human nature (instead of weapons they use such things like empty beer bottles and old cheeses for their big plans). You can find lots of parallels to your own life and have a good laugh.

But years later, I sat togeher with a colleague of mine from the former west Germany as Egon appeared on the screen and I said: "Oh look, the Olsen Gang, let's watch it, it' great!" And we watched and after a while he said "I'm sorry, what's that all about, it's not funna at all!" He hadn't never to improvise in a way it was neccesary in the failing economy of the eastern Germany, so it just wasn't funny to him (poor guy ;-).

I still can roar with laughter watching Egon & Co., despite knowing most dialogs by heart meanwhile.

Is there anyone else out there loving or at least knowing the Olsen Gang??? I don't know if there was ever made an English version. Probably the jokes wouldn't work in western Europe or the US, but eastern Europe should work fine. Anyone seen it there?

Holle, those guys looks really familiar. If it's Danish there are chances that it has been on TV in Finland. I'm sure I've seen them. Olsen gang.... Or then it's just the name Olsen that's familiar (Olsen brothers were in Eurovision song contest some years ago singing "Fly on the wings of love", my favourite of this century). But if they're ever on TV, I'll watch them, they seem to be very funny.

Elina just come over here and we can watch it together. Janin does not like it that much, says I shall watch it while she is at work :-(, so I need someone to have a good laughter together.

I love old movies and Nick, my hubby, worked in the art house film distribution field for many years. He distributed mainly foreign language films such as "Jean de Florette" and attended the Cannes Film Festival on two occaisions. Considering that he began as a part-time driver, I think he did amazingly well. When recession hit the industry, Nick and half the workforce within the industry, were made redundant which is when Nick began driving. O'Toole was very good to Nick and they shared a dry sense of humour. I was so very touched that he and his lovely son, Lorcan, bothered to come to the funeral service.

Oh! Danny Kay! Thumbelina, Thumbelina, tiny little thing. Inchworm, inchworm, measuring the marigolds. Very young memories. I fell in love with David Attenborough at a similar time. : ).

Linz.
