The best diet plan I ever was on was the simplest: eat when you're hungry, eat what you want, stop when you're full. But after years of conditioning to "clean my plate" and hearing "you're too fat", "hungry" and "full" were pretty meaningless words to me. But I did lose weight eating anything I wanted--as long as I waited until I was truly hungry and stopped at the first feeling of fullness. Funny thing, too--when you know you *can* eat a hot fudge sundae for dinner, you do--for awhile, then suddenly you find yourself hungry for more wholesome foods. When you can have what you want whenever you want, you don't want it so much. At least, I don't. |

I don't understand people with eating issues for the simple reason that I've never experienced any. |

I've experienced sugar starvation to a small degree, mrsthing. Instead of complex carbs, a normal dinner, I had cookies or ice cream. I awoke at 2 am shaking with hunger. I needed real food. Of course after I ate a meal, I had difficulty returning to sleep and didn't eat again until 10 am...it cost me the enjoyment of a day. OK, I probably ate a huge amount of cakes or whatever...
If I weren't living a physically active life I wouldn't have reacted as strongly, but that's evidence enough for me that sugar foods are 'empty calories'.

Sugar starvation? Are you kidding ? Sometimes I've barely eaten for 4 days yet I can switch off and return to a physically and mentally strenuous job. Am I really a miracle....or just bragging again ? ;) I amaze myself......and doctors. |

I just invented that term as far as I know! All that sugar couldn't even keep me alive in my sleep.
You are a wonder John.

I'm no wonder Pete. I think sheer pigheadedness keeps me going. One of these days I will just keel over and die.........but won't we all ? ( I'll just have had more fun than most ) ;)
That's a joke coming from a longtime depressive. |
