Yes, it was. And wrote down something Michael said on the Python radio thing on pythonline.com

"People are always looking for leaders, or they're looking for a hero somewhere or someone they could follow whether it's some sort of sportsmen or it's a polititian or it's a popgroup, or you know, some religious fundamentalist. They're always looking for someone like that. And...so alot of it is about gullibility, about the length people will go to sort of be led. Give up their own sort of powers of reason to somebody else's. That's what the film is about. It's "Think for yourself. Don't do something just because someone tells you to do it"

I just love that

Kisch, I am a "Newbie" when it comes to Art, and regret not having discovered it earlier. Currently I am being whisked along with images from an Australian Impressionist softcover produced by the National gallery of Victoria : Heres a few of our fine Australian Artists: Arthur Streeton, Charles Condor, Frederick McCubbin, Tom Roberts, Jane Sutherland........They are delightful...
Yay, Michael Palins Stories behind the Art, has got my Vote.......:)

Rox, I also don't know much about art, but - quoting Python sketch - "I know what I like". Unfortunately I know next to nothing about Australian artists, well, Sydney Nolan comes to mind, but that's about it. I can presume there are lots of interesting and unusual art stuff in Au, so when I'm there, I'll definitely visit some galleries.

Heres some links to google until you get here - National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne) currently running a Sidney Nolan exhibition. I met both Arthur Boyd and Sir Sidney Nolan, at Bundanon, many years ago, and way before I knew anything about art. Didn't have a clue who they were. I shook their hands - they were very welcoming. Arthur Boyds garden was magnificent. So we headed off there, via the verandah with Boyd's paintings propped up everywhere, I honestly didn't give them a second glance......just thought he did a lot of painting (OMG!) Didn't mention Art at all, just how beautiful the roses were, he must of been amused ! :)

Thank you for the links, Rox, I'll take a look. But seeing paintings on the internet or in books doesn't come anywhere near the experience of seeing them in real life.

Rox you met them?OMG!
Re: Michael at Tate Gallery, London by Rox on 21 March 2008 9:35am
Yeah, I have to agree - I liked what Michael said about the Mighty blockbuster Art Exhibitions, the marketing, the sponsers. Picasso's collection is touring here in June, and I'd love to see that, but it's only going to Brisbane, which is 4,363 kilometres from Perth ! :(
Re: Michael at Tate Gallery, London by Rox on 21 March 2008 9:40am
Hey Kazz, yes I really did meet them, at Bundenong - I was visting a very good friend, who was the caretaker of the grounds at that time (and a brilliant French polisher and guitar maker) - It's a bit embarrasing to admit to not having a clue who they were and no knowledge, WHATSOEVER, of Art, Australian or otherwise - Can you believe I walked straight past all Arthurs paintings on the verandah and talked to him, his wife, Yvonne and Sir Sidney about Yvonnes rose garden, which was breathtaking ! They must have been amused by my ignorance........AND funnier than that I still didn't realise who they were until YEARS later !!!!
