Wimpey or McDonald?

Which do you prefer?
Personally, I crave the old fashioned Wimpey burger; toasted bun, burger and fried onions - none of the c**p they put on these days moan moan!!!
I have even written to the company asking them to reissue the old type burger but to no avail.
I remember about 20 years ago (gosh!! can't be!) I was going into hospital for a major op, and would have to stay in at least 2 weeks. As a treat (as even then we tried to eat as healthy as poss) my husband took me for a Wimpey before I went in!! Bless. That meant a lot. (As I was also in for Easter (and my birthday), he also brought in cooked Hot Cross buns (sadly I had to secretly throw them away (sshhhhh!!) as I couldn't face food) and my Easter eggs!!).
Blimey I could really eat a Wimpey now....

I've not enjoyed a Wimpey burger but I haven't eaten at McDonalds in 10? years.
Don't get me wrong. A burger and fries are one of my essential food groups! I go for a buffalo burger if I'm in a pub, but the best...THE BEST burger is made chez moi:
Buffalo burger with bacon, cheese and garlic mushrooms, on a Calbrese bun with Dijon and mayo, with red onion, lettuce and fresh tomato.

Leave out the unhealthy bits (lettuce and tomato); fry the onions, toast the bun, throw away the mustard and mayo; (not sure about buffalo burger) and you're there, Chef Lounge Trekker!!! |

I'll let you know after I visit the ranch these bison are raised on. I believe they are pasture grass fed and require no antibiotics. The meat is low fat, very little of it saturated fat. And the flavour! Oh my.
I hope to get a few cuts to cook myself only having a loin in a restaurant. It was very tasty.
A Buffalo burger is a treat. I've tried it every which way and I've given away the franchise by telling you guys how to do it best!

I went off MacDonalds about eight years ago. And I've never had Burger King. I just can't stand the stuff! I don't eat KFC either. If I do have takeaway, it's usually Oriental! Chinese food, yum! |

oh neither, if I have takeaway I like Chinese, or sushi, or occasionally good ol' fish and chips. |

McDonald's is nostalgic for me, because we ate there on hot summer nights when I was a kid. That was back when the restaurants were just walk-ins--no seating; you ate in your car. And they had those wonderful golden arches that spanned the restaurant on both sides. My family of four could eat for under $2 in 1965! That's about $1.98 for 4 hamburgers, 2 cheeseburgers, 6 fries (they only came in small), 3 shakes, and one Coke. I know this is true, because when it went over $2, my father protested by refusing to eat there anymore. But I rarely eat there now, and only on those rare days when I'm so pressed for time I have to get lunch at a drive-thru.
We don't have Wimpy's around here. We have Wendy's, which is okay.
I love buffalo burgers! It's a bit expensive: $7/lb, but I get it every now and then. I had yak burgers in Washington state a couple of years back, and those were great, too. We were driving north from Loon Lake, and saw a hand painted sign that just said "Jack's Yaks" and a phone number. So we called, and we went, and Jack, who was not in any hurry, had us in to the living room, gave us iced tea, showed us the photo albums of the yaks, his Lhasa Apsos, his grandkids, and his wife's painted yak skulls. I thought we'd never get out of there! He came running out as we were finally leaving with our 8 yak burgers, saying, "I forgot to tell you how to cook them! Had a feller in here a couple of months ago...or was that last summer? Not sure...Effie, when did we have that feller here who bought the burgers and we forgot to tell him how to cook them?" etc., etc.! LOL |

Wimpy is English I think, and named after the burger munching character in Popeye.
I note from the menu that the so-called 'classic' is not the good old burger, fried onions and toasted bun!!
