Thanks, everyone. All of this is very encouraging. I'd been planning on getting back in good enough shape to climb Mt. Washington next year, but the doc said no more mountain climbing, jogging, off-road biking, or anything high impact. I've spent much of today fighting off the feeling that I should just pack a lunch and head north on foot for a one-way trip into the wilderness.
I'll be fine in a day or two, though. I always am.
Luckily, I'm not to the point of chronic pain yet. It comes and goes, and Motrin is usually effective. But since I'm only 50, and plan on living another 35-40 years, I want to forestall the chronic pain as long as possible. Maybe they'll have figured out a cure or a more effective treatment by then.
Back to my PT homework!
Thanks everyone. I hope to be back soon. |

Dammit, I will miss your posts, Judy. I am so sorry you have to deal with this.
Back problems are so bad since it is impossible to get away from them. I have osteoarthritis in an ankle I smashed up years ago but I can prop it up and pretend it's not connected to me.
Please reconsider your decision and keep in touch with us. We can be great therapy. |
