There's a clip of it on the BBC site but it's only viewable to UK residents. Drat! It's not likely that those in the US will see it since it's part of the BBC Timewatch series that doesn't air over here. I'll be stealing it off the Internet if I can locate it. |

I would have been surprised if it were shown here. World War I is not as big a topic in the United States.

YLE might even buy that program to Finland, because it's Michael Palin and because it's history. YLE shows very good history documentaries, many of them from BBC. However, it doesn't matter if they show it or not, I don't have TV to watch it! |

I look forward to the programme, I'm interested in WW1 and Michael's personal quest about his great-uncle Harry should add to the topic. |

I find it odd that although Michael is 10 years older than me at least, my UNCLES fought in WW1 and his GREAT uncle!
It's all to do with Mom being 14 years younger than her youngest sibling (who would've been 108 this year), and me being 14 years younger than my sister!! |

Anne, I'm considerably younger than you, yet my grandfather was born in 1877. He died in 1969 aged 92. It's down to the age when they became parents obviously. He was 43 when my mum was born and mum was 37 when she had me, so there was an 80 year difference between my grandad and me. There was a programme on telly the other night about Britain's youngest grans, where some of them were in their early thirties. |

I know - though I didn't watch it. I said to the husband what about youngest great-grans?!! (I was a Nan (prefer it to 'gran') at 36, a Gt Nan at 55). I was thinking though, with girls having babies at 12 or even 13 you could becone a gt gt gt gran at 60 hahahaha! Thank goodness it is still a comparitive rarity!! But if Bethany keeps up the family tradition (I was 19, Genevieve 18, Sophie 17) could be a Gt Gt Nan at 71 or 72!! Nooooooooooo!!
My Grandparents were born in 1871, 1872,(43 and 42 when Mom was born) and 1874 and 1875 (37 and 36 when Dad was born) - I didn't know any of them even though my maternal Nan lived until she was 94 or something, as she didn't agree with my Mum marrying my Dad (but then she also called one of Mum's sisters a 'damn yankee' because my Auntie lived in Canada from 1920 until her death in 1999 aged 99!!). Mom was 39 when she had me, so my eldest grandparent would've been 82 when she had me - but I think he had already passed on in the late 1940s.
And just to remind you, there are ONLY 4 or 5 years between us!!

I'm so glad Michael is doing this programme - it'll be 90 years, a significant anniversary, of course the programme will be so well produced & it's just right his programme is one of the tributes to be shown. |
