If I went back in time it would be to the end of the second world war when the fighting was finished and the world was taking steps to prevent the same happening again. The 'rebuilding' would have been interesting to be part of. |

I suppose, Pats dear, it is to do with the fact that, as I said, I had no bills to pay, no housework etc etc.!! By the time the end of the 60s arrived I was still only 16, so I am seeing it through very young eyes I guess.
I remember in the mid-60s aged about 14 wearing bells and having flowers stuck in my hair!! And being drawn to San Francisco (which I have now visited).
Yes we had riots too (well, no, not riots - protests). I was a big big big fan of Daniel Cohn-Bendit who was one of the student leaders during the French student protests in 1968. And we had our own Grosvenor Square protest. I tried to rally my schoolmates up to protest but no go. (perhaps if I'd been a sixth-former (i.e. year 12 or 13) instead of a 4th year (year 10))??!!

I was just a child in the 60s (age 2-11), but I remember Kennedy's death, and the Watts riots, and bits about the Viet Nam war, violent peace marches, and the like. My parents were very conservative and didn't think children--girls, especially--should know about these things, so I only heard about them as the sound from the TV drifted up through the bare subflooring in my bedroom. I accidentally saw a news film about the Watts riots, and I asked my father if we were having another Civil War, and he sent me to bed. So I missed the 60s, but not completely. They did let me see Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I've Got a Dream" speech on the TV. Even as a child, I was so stirred by his voice and his words. |

I'd probably visit my grandparents c.1900, just to see what their early married life was actually like.
I can only make guesses here, and as grandpa turned into a rather horrible drunk in his middle years, I'd like to know what it was like at the beginning. |

I never met either of my grandfathers--that would be nice. I'd also like to see what my grandmothers were like when they were young, because one was a drunk and the other was a pinched up widow who told me to my face that she didn't like little girls. They couldn't always have been like that! |

Being a late baby to late babies I never met any of my grandparents. The last of the four, my maternal grandmother who had been a nurse, died in the mid-60s at 95 or something, having spurned my poor Mum for 30-odd years for 'marrying above her' !!! What? She also used to call my Aunt (who had moved to Canada aged 20 in 1920) a 'damned yankee'.
Actually I have traced her line back a little and have found that her grandfather lived in a hall with servants so what was she on about?!!!

I would go to Philadelphia or Boston (or both) for the American Revolution. I've always had an affinity for that period. Sometimes I fancy that I was there. At least I CAN go to Colonial Williamsburg... |

Williamsburg is wonderful. Have you been, Cori? Jamestown too. I've been lots of times over the eyars and always enjoy it a lot. |
