Trip to signing tour by Patrick on 30 October 2002 11:42am
Hi everybody,

I'm planning to come to London in December exclusively for meeting Michael. The only problem is that I live in Germany and would have to fly to London for that occassion. It would be a little bit expensive.
People who have been at a signing, can you recommend to do that?

Thanks for you opinion

I would never recommend not meeting Michael, as it was such a great time for me. But be aware that if the queue is long, and you are near the end, you may only get 30 secs with him. It seems a long way to come just for that. But if it forms part of a mini-vacation, or you are happy that's all the time you may get, then go for it. If you do decide to come, then maximise your chances of getting more time with him and arrive at the store at least 60-90 mins early.

Good luck

Thanks Rick for your apply. I appreciate your advice. I'm 90% sure that I WILL go as it has always been a dream for me to meet a Python, especially Michael, in my life.
If I go I'll tell you about my experience here.

the best thing to do when going to a signing is get there a couple of hours before the thing starts . i went to see micheal in dublin in 1999 at a book signing and while i did'nt get a long time to talk to him . i got a chance to say a couple of things and he was very nice !!!!!

Hi Patrick,

I have never been to any of Michael's book signings, but I can tell you that only you can decide for yourself if you think it is worth it to fly to London. It is your choice, so go with what you want to do. That is of course if you can afford it. Money or should I say, lack of it can get in the way sometimes. :-) I live in New Zealand and last time I heard Michael will probably be coming here, although I have not heard anything definite. As far as I know he will only go to the main cities. So, I will have some travelling to do, (but not as far as you), if Michael only comes to Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch. I missed him when he was here to promote his book on Hemingway and I am determined to not miss him this time around. I may never get the chance again. I do have two brothers, one in Auckland and one in Wellington so if Michael does go to either of these cities I will be able to visit family as well. I can see myself taking 3 days off work, which I will be able to do because I have a great boss. Oops, I am rambling on! :-) Anyway, if you want to go to London to see Michael, then do it Patrick. :-)

Hi Patrick!
Nice to meet like minded people!! I'm also German planning to go to London in December... do you know the exact dates of his book signing sessions there? Maybe we can even meet, would shorten the time waiting in the queue!! ;)
Hugs from Hamburg,

Hi Lucy,

that's a great idea ;). You can check out the dates at www.dailyllama.com, there is an entire article about his signing tour. I'm planning to fly to London on December 3rd and return the next day as I'm a full time student. I'm not going to do any sightseeing. I would go to the signing at the Owl Bookshop in Kentish Town, starting at 7 p.m. on December 3rd.
You can send me an e-mail, if you want.

Hi Patrick and Lucy

go to www.whsmith.co.uk and you should find details of Michael being at Brent Cross shopping centre on Nov 26th and then he will be at the London Victoria on dec 4th for a mid-day signing so if you travelled over for Dec 3rd there will be another chance to meet michael the next day, buy two different books for him to sign - he didnt mind how many he signed for me. keep him talking whil he signs he is so friendly and very obliging.

Hi everybody again,

I finally decided to travel to London on December 3rd to attend Michael's Sahara book signing in the Owlbookshop in Kentish Town. I a hard time thinking about whether it would be worth but now I'm sure that it is and that it will be a unique experience! I'm so looking forward to next Tuesday. My flight leaves at 6:40 in the morning which is pretty early. Anyway, it was the cheapest flight I could get. I hope I'll be able to have a word with Michael.

I tell you about my experiences when I'm back home!

Have fun by Layla on 26 November 2002 2:16pm
I'm a student in Germany too - what airport are you leaving from? I'm here for a year, so I'm missing loads of the reruns of Michaels shows - so I'm going mad!
Hope you have a great time , have a safe trip...
