Speaking of differences between English and American, Anne, I've always wondered why you guys say "maths" and we say "math". Do you have multiple versions of mathmatics while we're stuck with only one?

I suppose because it is mathematicS, and not mathematic? I am not sure, but to me saying Math sounds odd, like someone saying 'moth' in a weird accent!!!

On the same theme, we shorten methylated spirits to Meths - do you say 'Meth'?

As George Bernard Shaw said “England and America are two countries divided by a common language.” Well, not necessarily DIVIDED but we sure say the same things differently!!

;)

"Methylated spirits" is not a term that's used here much. I had to look it up. I'm used to calling it "denatured alcohol".

"Meth" here refers to methamphetamines.

Yes, same here, Geraldine.

Denatured alcohol sounds as if it has been neutered or something!! Ouch!
