He is the forever-famous guru singer of Caribbean beach bum music advocating a free and easy lifestyle under sun and palm trees with a beer in one hand and a guitar in the other. His concerts are always sellouts and everybody knows the words to all of his music. He's not a youngster and he says he's laughing his way to the bank because he's making a fortune on dittys he's written effortlessly. He admits to having the time of his life while doing it though. He's a fine man, not a dirty creep like so many musicians are today. Just a regular guy who was lucky when people caught on to his style. His lyrics sing the praises of the Caribbean mostly denoted as "Margaritaville, pop and bee caps, flip-flops and shark fins. His obsessed fans are called Parrotheads. People who attend his concerts dress in island attire and sing along with him, bop beach balls around the audience and have a grand ol' time. Jimmy is usually barefooted. The lyrics are clever and and the tunes are catchy. Lots of fun music to get you in the island mode.

Very good description, patty. "Parottheads " made me smile. In their Hawaiian shirts an'all...
I am sadly familiar only with Jimmy Buffett's song "Margaritaville",where he supposedly drinks margaritas all day and laps up the sunshine. But why does he use the phrase "wasted away again..."? Surely he should be saying "having a fine time,y'all"?
The song is not explicit, but hints he is nursing his sorrows over some woman and drinking to excess....

I wondered,Patty,if there is even a small town somewheres in the USA called 'Margaritaville'...if not, well, perhaps there should be! lol

Here's another famous song called "Cheeseburger in Paradise"

Lyrics:

Cheeseburger in paradise
By: jimmy Buffett
1978

Tried to amend my carnivorous habits
Made it nearly seventy days
Losin' weight without speed, eatin' sunflower seeds
Drinkin' lots of carrot juice and soakin' up rays

But at night i'd had these wonderful dreams
Some kind of sensuous treat
Not zuchinni, fettucini or bulghar wheat
But a big warm bun and a huge hunk of meat

Chorus:
Cheeseburger in paradise (paradise)
Heaven on earth with an onion slice (paradise)
Not too particular not too precise (paradise)
I'm just a cheeseburger in paradise

Heard about the old time sailor men
They eat the same thing again and again
Warm beer and bread they said could raise the dead
Well it reminds me of the menu at a holiday inn

Times have changed for sailors these days
When i'm in port i get what i need
Not just havanas or bananas or daiquiris
But that american creation on which i feed

Chorus:
Cheeseburger in paradise (paradise)
Medium rare with mustard 'be nice (paradise)
Heaven on earth with an onion slice (paradise)
I'm just a cheeseburger in paradise

I like mine with lettuce and tomato
Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes
Big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer
Well good god almighty which way do i steer for my

Chorus:
Cheeseburger in paradise (paradise)
Makin' the best of every virtue and vice (paradise)
Worth every damn bit of sacrifice (paradise)
To get a cheeseburger in paradise
To be a cheeseburger in paradise
I'm just a cheeseburger in paradise

Coda:
I like mine with lettuce and tomato
Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes
Big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer
Well good god almighty which way do i steer for my

Hmmmm... I answered your post Big, but I don't see it. So----

Margaritaville is a state of mind, not a location. JB is definnitely singing of a lost love and drowning himself in beer to soothe his woes.

The use of the phrase "wasted away again" does not contradict his having a good time. He's wasted regardless of his mental state.

Now, here's a song you should see, listen to and enjoy. You must watch it ALL though, to get the right idea. Notice the crowd reaction as the video progresses. It's called "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere"

He has a web site and there are lots of references and videos of him on YouTube and other places when you google. I'm sure iTunes carries his music as well.
