..ah, it is somewhat (repeat:somewhat) reassuring that in this current day computer/electronic morass there is a real person out there that was on holiday. probably will return home to be replaced by a PC that will do a really spiffy autoreply.

What exactly was the question asked of the Society? Is it, “Has Michael has been awarded a medal from the RGS”?

I am a Fellow of the RGS (FRGS) and will be in London next week. I plan on stopping by the RGS offices and would be happy to inquire.

Jonathan

(I am a newbie to the site, recently posted an introduction in the “Re: MORE introductions (for everyone)” subject in the “Blathering On” section of “The Chatter Box”.

Is there still a question to be answered? I thought it was settled that MP had received the Ness Award in 1998 ("for travellers, particularly those who have successfully popularised geography and the wider understanding of our world and its environments"). The list of Ness Award recipients is:
http://www.rgs.org/category.php?Page=mainsociety

He didn't receive a Gold Medal & I don't think he would qualify anyway ("for the encouragement and promotion of geographical science and discovery").

The list of RGS Gold Medal recipients is: http://www.rgs.org/category.php?Page=mainsociety

If the question was about FRGS, what it means & how one becomes one, the requirements are: http://www.rgs.org/category.php?Page=mainsociety
