Re: We are nearly a year old??? our first anniversay as palinites!!! by sminobe on 1 October 2003 8:29pm

Hey, *I'm* ageing (and even aging), fat, bitter, lonely & bored -- and I'm happy & proud of it!! I was born aging in a shoebox in t'middle of Motorway, I've grown out fat in a sceptic tank, I've lived bitter & lonely in a cardboard box & I'll probably die bored eating a lump of cold poison for breakfast. That's the way it's been done in our family for generations & that's the way I honor my ancestors -- by continuing our proud heritage of being aging, fat, bitter, lonely & bored!

So there.

More to the point, it's difficult to understand someone's point when they're typing phonetically. It may be cute to some (sort of like dotting your "i"s with hearts), but to many it's a complete waste of time trying to decipher it, even if it eventually turns out to be interesting.

Engie - interesting message you posted. You have just gone and done what you accused Lyn of. Insulted someone on the board.

Now someone needs to insult Engie because he insulted Lyn because he thinks she insulted someone else. We'll have a line of insulters! :-)

Well said, sminobe!

Just for clarification:

I am not admonishing "decomposingcomposers" to stop typing phonetically, neither am I exhorting anyone to spend time deciphering his/her postings.

I merely wish to point out that typing phonetically creates a barrier to communication & understanding -- something very dear to MPs heart, it seems to me!

Contrariwise, being a fan of MP, I think it's imperative that we not fall into the trap of *conformity*! Netiquette, certainly, but I think there's plenty of room for diversity, even of typing styles & use or non-use of profanity. I just won't be reading phonetically typed postings & I probably won't respond to any posting with profanity -- that's just my own f*****g choice.
