British Kids TV Shows

Has anyone else noticed how unsuitable our British Saturday morning shows are for kids? LOL. Whenever i watch them religiously (ahem,i mean whenever they happen to be on and i'm in the room) i'm always noticing that the humour is simply going over the kids heads.
It's always as if the shows are more suited to people in their 20's,than 10yr olds. All those wise cracks and sexual innuendo (yes, really) that go on, and while the presenters are rolling around in laughter at each others jokes and wit,the kids are in the audience looking oblivious, but clapping and cheering when the "Clap now" board is help up by the floor manager. Really bizzare.
I remember watching a show last year with Ant and Dec (only Brits will know these two) at around 6pm on a Sunday. At one point there was a witty wise crack from Dec about Oral Sex, during a scene in a pub where one of the girls spits out her drink, which was innuendo but obvious. Everybody was laughing, but i thought "Crikey, how did they get away with that at 6 o'clock?". I honestly think that the shows are made for kids, but the target audience is actually people much older, as it seems like they know we'll all be watching them too. lol |

Actually, Saturday Night Takeaway is made for adults, and if you look, the audience is composed completely of adults. The last series was a bit risque, and with the second (that has just finished) they had toned it down, yet it was still brilliant. SMTV's genius was that in my view, when those pair were on, it used to apply to both... I grew up with that show, and as i grew older i started understanding more of the jokes. I never felt bemused because they presented an even show -which was their aim. There must be nothing worse for a parent to have to sit there and watch something dull. So they made it good. *shrugs* |

I love tales from the riverbank.
They did bring back the Wombles, can't you remember. They modernised it and added new characters. |
