Tee hee. You know the irritating people who come knocking on doors to find out if you are voting for them, and if you aren't they waste 30 mins of your time telling you why you should...

This time I am using a cunning plan - I say 'Yes I am voting for the <insert name here> party'. Sends them away in about 2 seconds, with both of us feeling extremely happy with ourselves. :) Try it!

I read somewhere that the election will probably be determined by about 100,000 floating voters.

Why not give them all a special Freeview box that has loads of election radio and TV and let us have our lives back from the suffocating boredom of having yet another politician avoiding saying anything in an interview by yet another presenter who is too chicken to ask proper questions.

If voting changed anything you can bet your bottom dollar they wouldn't allow it.

I agree that voting has taken too big an importance. This site is dedicated to travelers of all countries and as such should not be turning into a british-only site. As interesting as it may be, politics should not be replacing travels for two essential reasons: first, it might split the users of this site between the labour supporters, the conservative and the 'not-concerned-by-british-politics-what's-that-all-about-anyway??'; and secondly, this is a lack of respect towards the non british users of the site, because even if they're interested in politics, they might feel a bit lonely.
But that's only my opinion as a foreigner...

Hiya Morse

I can see why people (those non-UK) are confused. They see a thread with mini-election on it...and the only parties being discussed are UK (for obvious reasons) - do you see the problem? I imagine people have assumed that the thread excludes them...and in a way it does (although they can vote)...I didn't think about this to begin with...

Why would people from abroad really want to hear about our elections all the time (when they have little or no vested interest in the findings)? I'm bored of the election already and I'm actually able to vote!

Good idea though, but it appears to have gone a bit squiffy!

It has gone abit squiffy (dont hear that word often) but so has my hair this morning anyone know any anti-squiffy hair remedies..i suppose i could rub a politician on my head but that may make it more squiffy..ohhh the woes of a bad hair day!

Only because it concerns the British first, Morse.
Other people are not as involved as the British. Imagine I began a mini election of the next French president, how many palinites would be concerned? I know that French are not a majority( I wonder if I'm not the only one...) in this site, unlike British, but still, how would you feel if that mini election had as big an impact on the site?
However, I know this is not your fault, Morse, I just wished people stopped reacting so heartily to politics here. And if they do want to talk about it, why not? I do believe this is the perfect place to express our views on everything. But, please,CONSERVATIVE,( not to name anyone)just think about the way you welcomed the newcomers on the Introductions topic... You could have been less aggressive, don't you think?
