Re: Hampstead Lecture and what happened - chaos ruled!! by Webmaster on 16 May 2005 1:24pm

Hello everyone,

As a result of the nature of several recent postings from certain individuals in particular (to remain unnamed herein), we would like to remind you that the Chatter Box was created as an area in which people could exchange interesting anecdotes and opinions - not abuse or deride each other.

For the time being, we will not be removing the recent postings as we believe freedom of speech to be a privilege worth maintaining. Nor do we wish to take sides with either of the general opinions being voiced, as both contain significant flaws, economies of truth and oversights.

However, as a result of the inaccurate and insulting nature of several recent postings from both sides of the apparent disagreement, we would like to remind you of two pertinent Terms of Use relating to both this website and the Chatter Box itself:

11. You must ensure that any material submitted by you or any communication you make in connection with our website, will not

(c) be defamatory, profane, sexually oriented, racially offensive, harassing, threatening, obscene, pornographic, false, unreliable or misleading or otherwise objectionable in our opinion.

13. Save as provided in these Terms of Use we have no control over or responsibility for the truth or accuracy of any material available on the website which has been provided by third parties.

You can read the Terms of Use in full here: http://www.palinstravels.co.uk/static-176

As mentioned previously, we will be leaving the recent postings as a reminder of how NOT to use the Chatter Box. Further to these postings, however, we will maintain our policy of deleting any postings we believe to be inappropriate or insulting, and would ask that you post comments of a civil and thoughtful nature.

Please leave the Chatter Box as a place that people of all ages, backgrounds and interests can enjoy - and not a forum in which to carry out personal and prejudiced vendettas.

Thanks,
Webmaster

I must admit there is freedom of speech and too much freedom and it is sad that some people get away with so many vitriolic comments - you could at least leave only one as an example not all of them!!

without wanting to give any more attention to this rather silly ongoing debate don't you think it's time you listened to the webmaster diamond? you've attacked bjorn for no apparent reason and dismissed him as childish while saying that you shouldn't attack people.

you don't need the w.m. to delete all but one of the posts, by the way. you could delete your own messages yourself! i think leaving just one of your messages as an example would be more than enough for any poor reader to have to endure.

and how many more misguided, meandering messages are you going to write now that you "no longer wish to post to this site" (your own exact, no doubt soon to be retracted, words)? just wondering, as i was enjoying being able to read other people's posts without having to wade through yours.

All right, all right, I apologize. I'm really really sorry, I apologize unreservedly. I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, and was in no way fair comment, and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you, or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future.:-))))

Dear Diamond - Just a few things for you to think about...

1. I have never stated if I did or did not hear anything after the talk - you have concocted that line. Look at my previous postings.
2. I note that you say you are partly deaf - is that why you did not hear Michael specifically ask you to stop taking photos while he was talking when you were only 6 feet away from him? For some strange reason your camera lowered at that point. What a coincidence!
3. You also state that you COULD hear Michael being cross with someone from the other side of the room. Thatís what I call selective hearing.

This is so tedious now. OK, so Mr Palin had an off day and a fan was disappointed. It's hardly an earthshattering event. I'd be pissed off if someone continued to photograph me when asked to stop. It's disrespectful especially when Michael was trying to deliver a lecture. If this had been a theatrical performance, photography would have been prohibited. Let's end this posting and put it down to experience
