Guess many of you (not in Scotland) watched 'The Mystery of Hammershoi' last night. I must admit guiltily that I fell asleep towards the end, not due to the content but due to only getting about 3 hours sleep a night for the last month thanks to our 6 month old and beng totally knackered!
While a very different subject matter than most of Michael's 'normal' travel shows I think it revealed as much about Michael as about Hammershoi (and for those of you who watched and saw Michael as nature intended, thankfully from the rear, you know what I mean).
Still an interesting perspective on an hitherto pretty much unknown (in the UK) artist. My art tastes are more oriental and much European art fails to move me, but I was still informed and entertained.
Also please note that Sahara is to be repeated in full starting next Wednesday evening on BBC1.

We were fascinated by the Hammershoi programme and now add him to our Scandinavian Favourite Artists. Like Michael we stumbled upon Carl Larssen's work by accident and it made a profound impression upon us, so much that we found ourselves in Sweden this summer and visited his home! A treat, on the next day we chanced on an exhibition by Andreas Zorn in his home town of Mora, another find - all interiors were mysterious worlds we wanted to find out more about. We'd be interested to know if Michael has also seen these works, and whether he finds they share the hypnotic feel that Hopper and Hammershoi invest in their art - perhaps a Scandinavian thing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this programme, and thought the background music was great.
It's changing tempos reminded me of travelling and moving on durinfg the faster pieces, and contemplation during the slower parts, which I suppose was just the idea!
What was the music ? |
