1. Spam Chopped Pork and Ham was launched in 1936, since when 6 billion cans have been sold.
2. Somewhere in the world, one can of Spam is opened every 4 seconds.
3. The island of Guam in the Pacific has the highest rate of Spam consumption in the world- an average of 16 tins per person per year.
4. The Monty Python Spam sketch includes the word Spam 94 times.
5. Spam was first used in its internet sense in 1993.
6. The word Spam was coined by the actor Kenneth Daigneau at a 1936 New Year’s Eve party held by Hormel foods, which included a competitionto find a good name for its new product.
7. The words Spamburger and Spamwich (for spam sandwich) were first seen in 1941.
8. The Monty Python musical Spamalot has been commemorated in a Spamalot collector’s edition tin of Spam Golden Honey Grail by Hormel Foods.
9. “Two years from now, spam will be solved” (Bill Gates at the World Economic Forum in 2004)
10. A spam museum opened in Austin, Minnesota, in September 2001. Admission is free.

i have a spam can on my desk...the spam was nasty though....it was slimy and it can last for years if it remians sealed... |

Ellerd I bet they get LOADS of Monty Python fans there!
Phyll and I visited a cheese shop in Scotland and asked the man if he sold cheese (hehe). He rolled his eyes, sighed and said "Yes we sell cheese".
What he REALLY meant was "Go away annoying Monty Python fans and never return."
It's a wonder he didn't have a sign up with a picture of Python with a big red line thru it! |
